Weekly Updates- week of 14th November

This week we made some changes to the sound in the film, after previous feedback from the post questionnaire; and removed the crying sound as we felt this was unrealistic and inappropriate as there was no movement to the girl sat down; therefore showing she is not crying, yet sitting there idle. Instead we slowed down the 'scary music' clip to create a more daunting atmosphere and the repetition of this creates recognition and an enigma for the audience to therefore be more scared and alert.
We also repeatedly used this sound throughout the film, by adding it instead of the 'bicycle sound' we were going to initially use when Ahmed turns around, as we felt this would create a repetitive build of suspense.
These decisions were based on our feedback from the post-questionnaire, and as the sound person, these decisions were vital in order for our production to reach its highest potential.

This is the sound that we've decided to use as the main sound to show that the little girl in our production was weeping/crying. This is due to multiple reasons; firstly, the sound is a very slow-paced weeping, which fitted our needs perfectly. This is due to a number of reasons; firstly, in the scene where the sound is going to be used, the little girl would be sitting cross-legged on the floor, whilst Ahmed is leaving his detention. As we would need Ahmed to be enticed into going and checking if the girl was alright, we would need somewhat of a slow paced weeping sound. Hence why we picked this sound. Secondly, we also picked this sound as it contain continuous crying, and does not have any intermissions in the middle,  unlike some of the other sounds we sampled.

This is the initial crying sound we were thinking of using, however, we decided against it and decided to use the one listed above. This is because this sound is not as effective, because firstly, the sound has many pauses in between each crying sound. This would not give the viewer the full effect of the crying, as they would have to listen to pauses rather than continuous sound, unlike the one we chose to use finally. Secondly, we decided not to use this particular sound as it is higher pitched than the one we decided to use. We needed the crying to sound more realistic and fitting to our character and physique of our actor, and as this sound did not fit the requirements, we didn't choose it.

Clock Tick Sound, MAIN by spinechillerproductions

The sound we're using here will be used to imitate the sound of a clock, and will be used in the opening scene of our production. It was very easy to decide whether or not to use this sound, as we needed a precise and clear sound which imitated the sound of a clock very effectively. As most clocks sound exactly the same, the first clock sound we found, was the one we decided to use as it was clear, precise, effective and imitated the sound of a clock perfectly.
